What are cookies?

Cookies are small files or pieces of data used to store information in connection with computers, mobiles, and other electronic devices. Typically, cookies include a unique identifier and are used to store information on web browsers which can be sent to and from a server.

Why are cookies used?

Cookies serve a range of purposes. Some of these purposes are critical to the effective functioning of a website: identifying users during log-in, storing items for purchases, navigating pages, authenticating access, and more. Other cookie purposes are useful or desirable, but not necessary. For example, cookies can be used for increasing the speed at which pages load, recording user preferences for marketing purposes, improving website security, and measuring performance.

Do we use cookies?

We do use cookies on our website. You should have already received a pop-up notification describing those cookies and giving you an opportunity to opt-out (where possible). This Cookie Policy contains additional information intended to help you understand cookies (and the rules which govern cookies) so you can make a more informed decision.

What cookies do we use?

You can view our specific cookies in the cookie notice below. Please note that one of our categories is for cookies which are crucial for our specific website to function. These cookies are automatically permitted (as the website would not be usable otherwise). The other categories are for cookies which perform non-vital functions.

You can choose whether to allow any given category of cookies. By clicking “Show Details” you can view more information about each cookie we use in each category, including the cookie provider and the cookie purpose.

Necessary
Necessary cookies help make a website usable by enabling basic functions like page navigation and access to secure areas of the website. The website cannot function properly without these cookies.

Preferences
Preference cookies enable a website to remember information that changes the way the website behaves or looks, like your preferred language or the region that you are in.

Statistics
Statistic cookies help website owners to understand how visitors interact with websites by collecting and reporting information anonymously.

Marketing
Marketing cookies are used to track visitors across websites, to promote third-party services and products, and for third-party remarketing purposes. The intention is to display ads that are relevant and engaging for the individual user and thereby more valuable for publishers and third party advertisers.

Unclassified
Unclassified cookies are cookies that we are in the process of classifying, together with the providers of individual cookies.

Are there rules for using cookies?

We are a New Zealand based company and there is no legislation in our jurisdiction which specifically governs the use of cookies. As mentioned above, however, cookies can be used to store information about users. Depending on the type of cookie and its purpose, this information could be personal in nature (IP addresses, usernames, unique identifiers linked to user accounts, email addresses, and other information about an identifiable person).

In New Zealand, that information is subject to the Privacy Act 2020. The Privacy Act does not discriminate between sources of personal information and any collection, storage, and use of personal information needs to be compliant. We operate our website (and our cookies) in a manner consistent with the principles set out in the Privacy Act and you can view our Privacy Policy here.

Globally, there are specific laws and directives which govern the use of cookies (such as e-Privacy Regulation in Europe). While we are primarily a New Zealand company, we have taken steps to ensure that we will only activate cookie categories if you give us your consent (via the cookie notice). The only exception is for necessary cookies, and in all cases (including necessary cookies) you can easily access information about the specific cookies in each category and the kind of data collected and tracked by those cookies.
