With three unique worlds to explore, there’s no shortage of eye-catching moments, from the freaky to the fantastical and the make-believe to the mind-bending.

With new wonders to uncover around every corner, look out for these top snap-happy spots as you find the magical moments (and hidden gems) throughout your Wētā Workshop Unleashed journey!

Even before you enter the experience, be sure to meet and greet with the friendly trolls at the entrance - they make for great selfie pals! As you enter the doors, you’ll be greeted by our friendly Security Guard, Jeff. Whilst his safety record might be questionable, our much-loved animatronic friend loves a good selfie.

Get set for plenty of thrills and chills in our horror section as you discover the first of three wildly immersive worlds and capture some spooky snaps! 

There’s plenty of interactive exhibits to get up close and personal with, like creepy animatronic monsters, and virtual makeup mirrors that will give you and your family a spooky new monster makeover (don’t worry, it’s not permanent!).

Be sure to take a picture of yourself in the act of performing an alien autopsy (think Operation, but much bigger and even more gruesome). Fake blood is a staple on any horror movie set, and it’s surprisingly easy to make yourself at home! Snap a shot of Wētā Workshop Unleashed’s own signature recipe so you can test it out later, adding that extra fear factor to your next scary costume.

Dream, imagine, create

The second world you’ll enter is a magical land of fantasy, filled with countless creatures, big and small. In the Artists' Shed, you’ll discover how miniatures and bigatures are used by Wētā Workshop to create life-sized sets, with vivid details to wow fans of all ages.

The masterpiece of all is the larger-than-life castle, dreamed up for the epic film Age of the Ever-Clan. Its towering turrets and spires, flowing resin river and manicured gardens are a jaw-dropping display of Wētā Workshop’s world-class miniature skills. Venture beneath the castle into the hidden tunnels – and see what you might find through the peepholes! Then pop yourself high up on our throne and show off your best knight impression for the camera.

Embark on an intergalactic adventure

Lastly, be amazed as dreams and reality from the past and the future combine in an epic sci-fi world! Before long, you’ll be poking, prodding and interacting with a range of gizmos and gadgets in our fictitious intergalactic film set. The drawing board and directors’ tables offer an interesting look into how props and visual effects are brainstormed, designed and built.

There’s plenty of photo opportunities to enjoy in the Origins set, from alien artefacts to mighty monsters and a colossal 3D animatronic hand – but above all, don’t miss your chance to capture a snap of the gigantic robot hiding beneath an ancient volcano! The pinnacle of the sci-fi experience is the immersive atmospheric multimedia finale, a visual delight for all the senses awaiting you at the end of the Unleashed tour.

Unleashed Your Creativity

If you’re eager for more, our hands-on creative workshops are another opportunity to get an in-depth insight into Wētā Workshop’s world-class wizardry. Under the guidance of the Wētā Workshop team, practice your sculpting, leatherwork and chainmail skills, or special effects make-up artistry by creating some horribly-convincing scars and scrapes. You’ll be able to capture plenty of photos throughout the workshop, plus have a keepsake to take home with you.
