The Ministry of Health (MOH) has informed Weta Workshop that the Weta Cave retail shop in Miramar, Wellington, was visited by an Australian traveller from Sydney (20 June between 11.10am -12.30pm) who subsequently tested positive for COVID 19.

The person did not participate in any tours or purchase any products.

We have taken the precautionary measure of closing the Weta Cave and cancelling tours for today.

We continue to take advice from the Ministry and have taken the following actions:

  • Closed the Weta Cave and cancelled our tours for today
  • Our Sunday crew remain at home to isolate for 14 days and will follow MOH guidelines including testing recommendations
  • Deep cleaned Weta Cave and all tour spaces
  • Increased signage to inform guests of the situation
  • We are informing all customers booked on tours today and in the coming days, regarding the situation.

The health and wellbeing of our crew and guests is paramount, and we are taking all precautions and continuing to update everyone as we receive more information.

Prior to the visit, and since COVID 19 protocols were introduced in 2020, the Weta Cave has undergone regular deep cleaning; visitors have been encouraged to scan in using the COVID 19 tracer app; and hand sanitiser is available to visitors and all crew.

Weta Workshop is committed to doing its part to stop the spread of COVID 19 and help protect the community.
