Get a glimpse into the craft and creativity of the award-winning team at Wētā Workshop visiting our Group Tour Space
Overview
We have opened up our Group Experience Space on Park Road so you get a chance to voyage through decades of creativity! You’ll learn about how practical effects, costumes, and props are made for films like The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Avatar and King Kong.
This group space is where our larger cruise & school groups go through, so is not open for general tours often.
This guided journey takes place at Wētā Workshop dedicated off-premises group touring space on Park Road, Miramar – just around the corner from the Wētā Cave shop.
What To Expect
Led by a talented Wētā Workshop crew member, you’ll get right up close to processes and effects that feature in The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Chronicles of Narnia, Avatar, Elysium, and more.
From props, costumes and creatures, to weapons and armour, you’ll also learn the story behind how these amazing pieces were created to bring a director’s vision to life.

Your Wētā Experience - Park Road will start at our group space located 129 Park Road, Miramar, Wellington.
Please allow enough time to find a carpark, as spaces are limited.
Note: This option does not include transport from Wellington City, for the same ideal experience but with city pick up and drop off please select the option that features Guided Transfer.
Additional Info
- Photography is strictly prohibited whilst in our tour spaces.
- On-street parking is free, but can get busy. Please allow ample time to find a park.
- There is no luggage storage in the Wētā Cave or within our tour spaces.
